and Elizabeth QUITTENDEN (1653-?)
James Bourman married
Elizabeth Quittenden on 8 April 1673 in Mountfield, Sussex. At the time of their marriage James was a single man
of Beckley, and Elizabeth was a single woman of Mountfield.
may have been
born about 1650. (Another
James Boreman may
have been born at about the same time and he also married an Elizabeth in about 1673 and they settled in Burwash,
Sussex.) He was buried on 30 August
1691 in Mountfield. However, the burial register only records that
James Boreman was buried. Might James have been related to the
William Boorman (c1645-?) who married
Elizabeth Soals in 1672?
Quittenden was baptised on 15 October 1653 in Mountfield. She was
the daughter of John Quittenden. Her mother may have been
Susanna Ancoke (aka Susanna Noakes) who married a John
Quittenden on 1 July 1651 in Salehurst. Elizabeth may have been
buried on 28 November 1702 in Mountfield, as Elizabeth Boreman of
Battle, but this entry may refer to her daughter. Or as Elizabeth
Boreman a widow of Beckley, she may have married Thomas Metland
of Wadhurst by licence on 9 April 1693 in Peasmarsh, Sussex. Or as
Elizabeth Boarman a widow of Brede or Burwash, she may have married
James Knight of Burwash, by licence on 24 April 1695 in Dallington.
James Bourman and Elizabeth had 4 known children:
John Boreman was baptised on 15 May 1674 in
Elizabeth Boreman was baptised on 4 March
1675 in Mountfield.
Alice Boreman was baptised on 1
September 1682 in Mountfield.
James Boreman was buried on 15 August 1695 in
Mountfield and the burial register recorded that he was the son of
James and Elizabeth may also have been the parents of:
Susanna Boreman who married Thomas Avery on 19 January
1706/7 in Mountfield. (Strangly, the IGI records that a Thomas
Avery married Susanna Smith on 16 February 1706/7 in Crowhurst.)
