Albert Edward Bennett was baptised on 1 August 1875 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  He was the son of Elijah Bennett (1833-1915) and Mary Ann Pringle (1839-1878).  At the time of his baptism his father was a packer of 124 Upper Lewes Road, Brighton.  A database at gives that he died on 12 March 1960 in Brighton.  When the 1881 census was recorded he was 5 years old and living with his widower father and elder siblings at 26 Picton Street, Brighton.  His father was then an upholsterer.  In 1891 he was 16 years old and living with his father at 22 St. Mary Magdalene Street, Brighton.

Ellen Isabella Parsons was born in the third quarter of 1876 in Horsham, Sussex.  She was the daughter of James Parsons (1849-1901) and Ellen Oman (1846-1910).  A database at gives that she died on 3 September 1927 in Ottawa, Canada.  When the 1881 census was recorded she was 4 years old and living with her parents at Little Perknowle, Henfield Road, Cowfold.  Her parents were both then aged 32 years.  Her father was born in West Grinstead and her mother in Scotland.

In 1901 the couple and 2 children (Lizzie and Emily) were living at 7 Coombe Terrace, Preston near Brighton.  Albert was then a 25 year old bricklayer's labourer, born in Brighton, and Ellen was 24 and born in Horsham.  Also with the family was 53 year old mother-in-law Ellen Parsons who was a washer in the laundry and born in Scotland, 2 brother-in-laws namely 22 year old William Parsons a carter on a farm and born in Cowfold and 17 year old Edward Parsons a yeast merchant's porter and born in Brighton, and 10 year old boarder Charley McKellow who had been born in Eastbourne.

When the 1911 census was recorded Albert and Ellen were living at 39 Ewhurst Road, Brighton.  He was then a 35 year old bricklayers labourer from Brighton and she was a 34 year old laundress from Horsham.  They said they have been married 17 years and had had 4 children, 3 of whom were living and 1 had died.  However, with them on census night were 4 children (Albert, Elizabeth Annie, Emily and Henry).  Also with the family were the following boarders:  Thomas Green a 36 year old window cleaner from Bethnal Green, Caroline Green a 29 year old laundress from Brighton, 6 year old Thomas Green born Brighton, 7 month old John Green and 2 month old Alfred Green who were also born in Brighton, 78 year old Elijah Bennett an Army pensioner of the Rifle Brigade and his wife Mary Ann Bennett who was 58.  Elijah and Mary Ann were both born in Brighton and had been married for 40 years and had had 13 children, 6 of whom were living and 7 had died.
