William Day
BEARD (c1793-1862)
and Elizabeth IZARD (1796-?)

William Day
Beard and Elizabeth Izard married by licence on 30
November 1820 in Brighton, Sussex. He was a bachelor and she a
spinster and they were both of Brighton. Their marriage licence was
issued on 28 November 1820 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which noted that he
was a bachelor and gent aged 27 years and upwards of Brighthelmstone, whilst
she was a spinster aged 24 years and upwards. Surety for their licence
was provided by William himself and George Beard a miller
of Chailey. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
William Day
Beard may have been born about 1793. He may have been the son
of Thomas Rootes Beard and Julien Day who
married on 10 October 1785 in Chailey, Sussex. He most probably died
in the third quarter of 1862 in the Worthing, Sussex registration district.
(Thomas may have been the son of George Beard and
Mary Rootes who married on 21 June 1755 in Chailey.)
Elizabeth
Izzard was born on 13 May 1796 and baptised at St. Nicholas,
Brighton on 21 June 1796. She was the daughter of William
Izzard and Sarah Chandler, who had married on 8
February 1790 in Ditchling, Sussex.
William Day Beard
and Elizabeth Izard had 5 known children:
-
William
Day Beard was baptised on 9 November 1821 at St. Nicholas,
Brighton. The baptism register described his father as a gent of
Ship Street. The death of a 66 year old William Day Beard
was registered in the fourth quarter of 1887 in the Norwich, Norfolk
registration district. He was mentioned in his brother Edward's
will of 1846. William married Catherine Gascoyen
on 5 February 1846 in Woburn, Bedfordshire.
-
George
Beard was baptised on 31 December 1823 at St. Nicholas,
Brighton. His father was then a gent of German Place. He was
mentioned in his brother Edward's will as George Chantler Beard.
-
Edward Henry Beard was
baptised on 1 September 1824 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. His father
was then a gent of German Place. His death was registered in the
first quarter of 1847 in the Brighton registration district.
Edward Henry left a will (click

transcript of his will).
-
Julia
Sarah Beard was born on 2 December 1825 and baptised on 1 March
1826 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. Her father was then a gent of
Black Lion Street. In 1841 she was a 15 year old pupil in the Old

of 1846, at which time it would appear she was still single.
-
Charles
Jerrold Beard was baptised on 28 December 1827 at St. Nicholas,
Brighton, at which time his father was a gent of German Place. A
Charles I. Beard died aged 89 years
and his death was registered in the fourth quarter of 1916 in the
Windsor, Berkshire registration district. It seem he was mentioned
in his brother Edward's will as Charles Izard Beard.
