Edmund BAXTER
(1662-?)
and Joan FARNHAM (c1670-1739)

Edmund Baxter and Jone Farnham
married on 5 October 1689 in Dunsfold, Surrey. (They were not
my direct ancestors. Edmund was the brother of my 8x great
grandfather, Peter Baxter.)
Edmund Baxter was baptised on 2 July
1662 in Haslemere, Surrey. He was the son of
William Baxter
(c1620-?) and
Sarah Hull (1623-1680). He may have been buried on 26 November
1748 in Dunsfold, but Edmund was a fairly popular name with the Baxters and
I am not sure which one was buried. He was a blacksmith.
Joan Farnham's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
She was the daughter of Richard Vernham - see below. Her father
left her a legacy of twenty pounds in his will.
She was buried on 13 September 1739 in Dunsfold.
Edmund Baxter and Joan
Farnham may have had the following children:
-
Sarah Baxter was baptised on 15 January 1689/90 in Dunsfold.
She was mentioned in her maternal grandfather's will, by which she was to
receive a legacy of five shillings.
-
William Baxter was baptised on 14 April 1691 in Dunsfold. He
may have been appointed an executor of his maternal grandfather's will,
but he would only have been about 15 years old at the time of his
grandfather's death.
-
Mary Baxter was baptised on 7
November 1692 in Dunsfold. She may have been buried on 6 June 1700
or on 1 January 1705, both burials in Dunsfold. She did have a
cousin
Mary Baxter born in 1695.
-
Edmund Baxter was baptised on 14 April 1695 in Dunsfold. He
was left a legacy of five shillings by his maternal grandfather.
Edmund
married Lydia Rowed on 18 May 1719 in Hascombe, Surrey.
-
Richard Baxter was baptised on 5 May 1698 in Dunsfold. He was
left a legacy of five shillings by his maternal grandfather.
Richard
married Grace Edwards by licence dated 26 August 1726. The
marriage licence was issued by the Archdeaconry of Chichester and recorded
that Richard was a bachelor and gent of Dunsfold, whilst Grace was a
spinster of Rudgwick.
Richard and Grace had the following children:
-
Mary Baxter was baptised on 27 June 1729 in Dunsfold.
-
Richard Baxter was baptised on 31 August 1731 in Dunsfold.
-
Grace Baxter was baptised on 4 March 1733 in Dunsfold.
-
Sarah Baxter was baptised on 12 December 1735 in Dunsfold.
-
Edmund Baxter was baptised on 9 November 1742 in Dunsfold.
Edmund married Sarah Elliott by licence on 8 June 1769 in Wisborough
Green, Sussex. The witnesses to the marriage were Thomas
Elliott and Mary Elliott. Their marriage licence was
issued by the Archdeaconry of Chichester on 27 May 1769. It
recorded that Edmund was aged 26 years and a bachelor and farmer of
Godalming, Surrey. Sarah was a 21 year old spinster of Wisborough
Green.
-
John Baxter was born on 22 August and baptised on 1 September 1704 in Dunsfold.
He married Ann Billinghurst
in 1729. (They have their own page.)
