Thomas BEAYTUP (c1730-1787)

and Martha GANDER (c1734-1814)

Thomas Beatyup and Martha Gander married by banns on 8 January 1753 in Cowfold, Sussex.  He was then from West Grinstead, Sussex.  (They were my not direct ancestors.)

Thomas Baytup's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been buried on 16 December 1787 in Cowfold.  Might he have been the son of Thomas Batehupp, senior, who was buried on 28 November 1760 in West Grinstead?

Martha Gander may have been born about 1734.  She died a widow aged 80 years and was buried on 11 March 1814 in Cowfold.

Thomas Beaytup and Martha Gander may have had the following children:

  1. John Baytup may have been part of this family.  He was born about 1753.  John married Mary Wood in 1781.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Thomas Baitop was baptised on 23 January 1756 in Cowfold.  Did he marry Mary Mitchell in 1781?

  3. Elizabeth Baytop was baptised on 2 February 1758 in Cowfold.

  4. Mary Baitup was baptised on 13 January 1760 in Cowfold.

  5. Richard Baytup was baptised on 11 July 1762 in Cowfold.

Richard married Susanna Axford by licence on 8 June 1797 in Midhurst, Sussex.  The witnesses to their marriage were Richard Axford and Elizabeth Axford.  Their marriage licence was issued the day before by the Archdeaconry of Chichester.  It recorded that he was a bachelor and turner of Cowfold aged 33 years.  She was a 21 year old spinster of Midhurst.  Surety for the licence was provided by Richard himself and Richard Axford a wheelwright of Midhurst.

  6. Thomas Batehup was baptised on 21 January 1765 in West Grinstead.  The baptism register recorded that he was the son of Thomas and Martha.

  7. Elizabeth Baytop was baptised on 11 June 1767 in Cowfold.

  8. Edward Bateup was baptised on 11 February 1772 in West Grinstead and buried there on 28 January 1775.

Thomas Baytop and Mary Batchelor married by licence on 15 November 1774 in Cowfold.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Peirce and Walter Hills.

Thomas Bateup, son of Thomas and Mary was buried on 22 November 1777 in West Grinstead.

Richard Bateup was buried on 17 March 1781 in West Grinstead.

Elizabeth Baytopp was buried on 12 September 1791 in West Grinstead.

Mary Baytopp, wife of Thomas was buried on 9 February 1800 in West Grinstead.
