John Baytup and Sarah Clarke married on 4
November 1849 in Nuthurst, Sussex. (They were my not direct ancestors.)
John Baytup was baptised on 27 April 1817 in Nuthurst.
He was the son of Richard
Baytup (1782-?) and
Elizabeth Stear.
Sarah Clark
was baptised on 22 May 1825 in Horsham, Sussex. She was the daughter
of Jesse Clark and Ann Nye.
When the 1861 census was recorded the couple and 5 children were living at
Park in Shermanbury, Sussex. John was then a 45 year old agricultural
labourer and Sarah was 37.
In 1871 the couple and 8 children were living at Nyes Hill in Bolney.
John was then a 55 year old carter on a farm and Sarah was 48.
By 1881 the couple had moved to Buttons Farm in West Grinstead, Sussex.
John was then a 63 year old agricultural labourer and Sarah was 57.
They had 3 of their children living at home with them on census night.

Elizabeth Ann Baytop was baptised on 30 December 1849 in
Nuthurst. She was an 11 year old scholar in 1861. The 1871
census records her name as Ann Baytup and she was then
an unmarried 21 year old living at home with her parents.
Elizabeth Ann married John Akehurst by
banns on 29 July 1871 in Cowfold. She was then said to be from Bolney
and the daughter of John Baytop a labourer. John was
also a labourer and the son of John Akehurst, a labourer.
The witnesses to their marriage were Kaziah Akehurst and
Peter Woolven.

William
Henry Baytup was born about 1851 and baptised on 31 October
1855 in Nuthurst. He died aged 6 years and was buried on 6
December 1857 in Warnham.

John
Baytup was born in Walworth, Surrey in about 1854 and baptised
on 21 October 1855 in Nuthurst. In 1861 he was a 7 year old
scholar.

Charles
Baytop was baptised on 1 July 1856 in Warnham, at which time
his father was a labourer from Daws in Warnham. He died aged 11
months and was buried on 7 June 1857 in Warnham. The burial
register also records that he was from Northlands.

Jesse
Baytop was baptised on 1 July 1856 in Warnham. In 1861 he
was 4 years old. In 1871 he was a 14 year old farm labourer.

George
Baytop was baptised on 27 June 1858 in Warnham, at which time
his father was a labourer from Daws in Warnham. He was 2 years old
in 1861. In 1871 he was a 12 year old carter boy. In 1881,
he was an unmarried 22 year old agricultural labourer living at home
with his parents.

Harriott Batap was baptised on 20 May 1860 in Cowfold. At
the time of the 1861 census she was 11 months old. In 1871 she was
an 11 year old scholar.

Louisa
Baytop was baptised on 3 August 1862 in Shermanbury. She
was an 8 year old scholar in 1871.
Louisa married
Henry
Tulett by banns on 1 December 1881 in West Grinstead.
Henry was then a 26 year old bachelor and gardener from Shermanbury.
Louisa was a 19 year old spinster and servant. Their fathers were
named as James Tulett a gardener and John
Baytop a carter. The witnesses to their marriage were
George Moore and Harriet Baytop.
Henry
was baptised on 9 July 1854 in Cowfold and was the son of
James Tulett
(c1814-1890) and
Elizabeth Moore
(1819-1854).

Kate
Baytop was baptised on 3 July 1864 in Shermanbury. In
1871 she was a 6 year old scholar. She was a 16 year old servant
in 1881 and living at home.

Ned
Baytup was born about 1867 in Bolney. He was 4 years old
when the 1871 census was recorded. In 1881 he was a 14 year old
carter boy.

Ellen
Baytop was baptised on 27 June 1869 in Bolney. She died
aged 3 years and was buried on 11 January 1872 in Bolney. She was
a year old at the time of the 1871 census.
