Joseph BARROW
(1739-1812)
and Sarah EASTWOOD (1740-1811)

Joseph Barrow
and
Sarah Eastwood
married on 9 February 1764 in Burwash, Sussex. (They were not
my direct ancestors. Sarah was the niece of my 6x Great Grandmother,
Frances
Monk.)
Joseph Barrow was baptised on 9 February 1764 in Burwash. He
was the son of Richard Barrow and Ann Jupp. Joseph was
buried on 2 January 1812 in Heathfield.
Sarah Eastwood was baptised on 10 April 1740 in Burwash. She
was the daughter of
William
Eastwood (1714-1788) and
Ann Monk
(1719-?). Sarah was buried on 14 June 1811 in Hellingly, Sussex.
Joseph Barrow and Sarah
Eastwood had 10 known children:

Ann Barrow was baptised on 29 June 1764 in
Burwash. She married
William Thorpe
in 1784. (They have their own page.)

Sarah Barrow was baptised on 1 May 1767 in Burwash. Sarah may
have married John Thompson by banns on 8 August 1789 in Heathfield.
He was then a yeoman and widower of Heathfield.
-
Joseph Barrow was baptised on 27 March 1769 in Burwash.

George Barrow was baptised on 3 May 1771 in Burwash.
-
Elizabeth Barrow was baptised on 13 April 1773 in Burwash.
-
Richard Barrow was baptised on 10 August 1774 in Heathfield.
-
Mary Barrow was baptised on 22 March 1776 in Heathfield. She
married Stephen Piper by banns on 26 December 1803 in Heathfield.

William Barrow was baptised on 28
November 1777 in Heathfield. He married
Lucy Dearing
in 1801. (They have their own page.)

John Barrow was baptised on 19 March 1779 in Heathfield.
John
may have married Catherine Hammond by banns on 22 October 1803 in
Heathfield.
When the 1841 census was recorded, 60 year old John was living in Runt and
Tun, Heathfield, along with 40 year old Hannah Barrow and 25 year
old Thomas Barrow. John may have married Hannah Polton
by banns on 28 December 1827 in Heathfield.
John and Catherine may have had the following children:

Sarah Barrow was baptised on 18 November 1804 in Heathfield.

Joseph Barrow was baptised on 22 May 1810 in Heathfield.

Frances Barrow was baptised on 14 May 1814 in Heathfield. She
may have married George Evans by banns on 1 January 1832 in
Heathfield. They were both of Heathfield.

Philadelphia Barrow was baptised on 14 October 1817 in Heathfield.
She married James Haffenden by banns on 26
December 1835 in Heathfield. They were both then of Heathfield.
-
Lucy Barrow was baptised on 14 February 1819 in Heathfield.
-
George Barrow may have been part of this family. He was born
about 1821 in Heathfield. He may have died between 1851-4.
George married Caroline Booth on 13 March 1844 at the Baptist
Chapel in Hailsham, Sussex. He then named his father as John
Barrow, and one of the witnesses was Philadelphia Barrow.
When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and their children were
living in home of Thomas Abraham Balcombe at Twizell's Mill in
Heathfield. George was then a 30 year old agricultural labourer and
Caroline was a 25 year old housekeeper. Caroline was born in
Warbleton.
George and Caroline had 2 known daughters:

Ann Barrow was bron about 1845 in Heathfield. She was a 6
year old scholar in 1851.

Harriott Barrow was born on 22 April 1849 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex.
She was said to be a year old when the 1851 census was recorded.
When the 1861 census was recorded she was 12 years old and living with her
mother and step father in Asburnham, Sussex.
Harriet married
David Matthews on 14 October 1877 in Brighton. He was
baptised on 2 February 1851 in Shermanbury and was the son of
John Matthews and
Ann Mansbridge.
When the 1861 census was recorded, 35 year old Caroline was living with
her husband James Head at Wilsons in Ashburnham. Also with
the couple was Caroline's daughter Harriet, and their children, 6 year old
James Head, Albert Head aged 4, Sarah Head aged 2 and
5 month old John Head.

James William Barrow was baptised on 20 July 1782 in Heathfield.
James married Jane Dearing on 29 Jun 1804 in Heathfield. He was
then described as a farmer and son of Joseph and she was said to be the
daughter of John. Jane was born about 1786 and was the daughter of
John Dearing and Susannah Harmer.
When the 1841 census was recorded, 60 year old Jane Barrow was a
widow and living in West Street, Heathfield, in the home of 25 year old
Joseph Barrow. The family were then living in the same property
or next door to Jane's nephew
James Barrow.
James and Jane may have had the following children:
Sarah Barrow was baptised on 9 September 1804 in Heathfield.
Benjamin Barrow was baptised on 20 August 1807 in Heathfield.
He was a 30 year old agricultural labourer in 1841
James Barrow was born about 1811. He was a 30 year old
agricultural labourer in 1841.
Lucy Barrow was baptised on 26 September 1813 in Heathfield.
Joseph Barrow was born about 1815. He was a 25 year old
shoemaker in 1841.
Jane Barrow was baptised on 25 April 1819 in Heathfield
Caroline Barrow was baptised on 21 December 1823 in Heathfield.
She was 15 years old when the 1841 census was recorded.
