Thomas BARDEN (c1640-?)

and Elizabeth TREDCRAFT (c1640-?)

 

Thomas Barden and Elizabeth Tredcraft may have been my 8x Great Grandparents.  They married on 9 June 1663 in Cuckfield, Sussex.

Thomas Barden's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  According to the IGI he was born about 1638.  He may have been buried on 12 October 1687 or 28 April 1718 in Cuckfield.  On checking the Sussex Family History Group's marriage index for possible parents of Thomas, the closest in time and place was that of William Barden and Elizabeth Tester on 30 September 1630 in Buxted, Sussex.

Elizabeth Tredcraft's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been baptised on 7 February 1637/8 in Warminghurst, Sussex and have been the daughter of Anthony Tredcroft and Agnes Ansor (who was a widow when she married Anthony on 12 November 1633 in Warminghurst).  A widow Barden was buried on 2 July 1691 in Cuckfield.

 

Thomas Barden and Elizabeth Tredcraft had 4 known children:

  1. Thomas Barden was baptised on 25 October 1664 in Cuckfield.

    Thomas married Tin Gillum (or Timothy) by banns on 24 November 1697 in Itchingfield, Sussex.  At the time they were both said to be of Itchingfield.

    Thomas and Timothy had 1 known daughter:

    1. Elizabeth Barden was born on 18 June and baptised on 1 July 1698 in Cuckfield.  Did she or her cousin marry John Snashall in 1720?  (They have their own page.)

  2. John Barden was baptised on 20 May 1666 in Cuckfield.  John may have been buried in Cuckfield on 24 May 1708 or 13 May 1726.

    John married Mary Sayers by banns on 13 May 1694 in Cuckfield.

    Mary may have been buried in Cuckfield on 1 September 1705.

    John and Mary had 5 known children:

    1. Elizabeth Barden was baptised on 1 March 1694/5 in Cuckfield.  Did she or her cousin marry John Snashall in 1720?  (They have their own page.)

    2. Mary Barden was born on 27 June and baptised on 12 July 1696 in Cuckfield.

    3. Anne Barden or Agnes was born on 18 October and baptised on 17 November 1697 in Cuckfield.

    4. John Barden was born on 18 September and baptised on 4 October 1699 in Cuckfield.

    5. Sarah Barden was baptised on 27 March 1702 in Cuckfield.

  3. Steven Barden was baptised on 10 July 1670 in Cuckfield.  He was buried on 20 April 1726 in Cuckfield.

    Steven married Eleanor Edwards on 27 May 1701 in Cuckfield.  He was then a labourer and they were both of Cuckfield.

    Eleanor was buried on 2 September 1721, in Cuckfield.

  4. Mary Barden was baptised on 1 June 1673 in Cuckfield.  She may have married John Gander on 28 May 1693 in Cuckfield.  She was then a spinster and he a bachelor.
