John BALDWIN
(1843-1905)
and Ann BARHAM (1843-1902)

John Baldwin and Ann Barham married in
1866. (They were not my direct ancestors. Ann was the sister of
my 2x Great Grandmother, Frances Barham.)
John Baldwin was born on 26 November 1843 and baptised on 24
December 1843 in Wadhurst, Sussex. He was the son of Thomas Baldwin
(1800-?) and Mary Burridge (1814-?). His father was a higgler.
John died aged 61 years and his death was registered in the third quarter of
1905 in the Ticehurst registration district.
Ann Barham was born on 19 August 1843 and baptised on 22 October
1843 in Wadhurst, Sussex. She was the second daughter and fourth
child of
Nicholas Barham
(1814-1896) and
Frances Dadswell
(1812-1901). Ann died aged 59 years and her death was registered
in the third quarter of 1902 in the Ticehurst registration district.
On
14 July 1866 John and Ann were witnesses to the marriage of her sister Frances
Barham to Frederick Edward Boorman, and Ann was still a
spinster at that date.
At the time of the 1871 census John and Ann were both 27 years old and
living at Fancouch Cottage, Wadhurst, along with their young son.
John was then a steam trasher. John's parents were also living at
Fancouch Cottage in 1871 and his father was then a poulterer.
When the 1881 census was recorded the couple were both aged 37 years and were living at Riseden Farm
in Wadhurst along with their 5 children. John was then a farmer.
Also with them were 21 year old visitor Fanny E.
Cork who was an unmarried domestic servant born in
Wadhurst and their 15 yeara old general servant Ansley H.
Heath who had been born in Rotherfield, Sussex.
In 1891 the family were living in Durgates, Wadhurst and John was an engine fitter and farmer.
The couple were then both aged 47 years and 7 of their children were
living with them. Also
with them at that time was 13 year old Eliza Harding who was a
general domestic servant who had been born in Wadhurst.
By 1901 the couple were 57 years old and living at Durgates with 3 of
their children. John was then an agricultural engineer and the
census noted that he was an employer.
John Baldwin and Ann Barham had 8

John Baldwin was born in the second quarter of 1870 in Wadhurst.
At the time of the 1871 census he was 11 months old. In 1881 he
was a 10 year old scholar. When the 1891 census was recorded he was an unmarried 20 year old engine
fitter's assistant and living at home. John married Harriet Davis in 1891 and they had 2 known children.
In 1901 he was an engine fitter. Harriet was born about 1869 in
Frant, Sussex.

Thomas Baldwin's birth was registered in the first quarter of 1873
and he was born in Wadhurst. He was an 8 year old scholar in 1881.

William Baldwin's birth was registered in the first quarter of 1875
and he was born in Wadhurst. In 1881 he was a 6 year old scholar. When the 1891 census was reocrded he
was a 16 year old engine fitter's assistant. William married Margaret Jones in 1900, who was born about 1875 in
Llanberis, Wales. In 1901 William was an engineer bicycle fitter.

Walter Baldwin was born in the second quarter of 1876 in Wadhurst.
In 1881 he was a 4 year old scholar.
He was a 14 year old engine fitter's assistant in 1891. Walter married
Kate Styles in 1898. In 1901 they were living in
Lamberhurst, Kent and Walter was an electric and steam engineer.

Frank Baldwin was born in the first quarter of 1881 in Wadhurst.
At the time of the 1881 census he was 2 months old. He was a 10
year old scholar in 1891. In 1901 he
was an engine driver and living with his parents in Wadhurst.

May Baldwin was born in the second quarter of 1882 in Wadhurst. She was a 9
year old scholar in 1891. In 1901 she was 18 years old.

Charles Baldwin was born in the first quarter of 1885 in Wadhurst. He was a 6
year old scholar in 1891.

Clara Baldwin was born in the third quarter of 1888 in Wadhurst. She was 2
years old in 1891. In 1901 she was 12 years old.
