Thomas BALDOCK (1760-?)

and Mary AVARD (1760-?)

 

Thomas Baldock and Mary Avard married by banns on 24 September 1785 at the parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Wadhurst, Sussex.  They were both then of Wadhurst.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Mary was the granddaughter of my 7x Great Grandparents, Robert Smith and Elizabeth Swift.)

Thomas Baldock was baptised on 1 May 1760 in Wadhurst.  He was the son of Henry Baldock and Emma Peavy.  Thomas was a blacksmith.

Mary Avard was baptised in January 1760 in Wadhurst.  She was the daughter of Edward Avard and Mary Smith.

Mary had an illegitimate daughter:

  1. Mary Moren Avard was baptised on 17 March 1782 in Wadhurst.  Might her father have been William Moren or his brother Charles Moren?

 

Thomas Baldock and Mary Avard had 9 known children:

  1. Ann Baldock Avard was baptised in August 1784 in Wadhurst.  The baptism register records that she was the daughter of Mary Avard "a noted strumpet" and Thomas Baldock a blacksmith.

  2. Thomas Baldock was baptised on 1 October 1786 in Wadhurst.

    Thomas married Mary Moren by banns on 19 August 1810 in Wadhurst.  They were both of Wadhurst.  Thomas signed his name whilst Mary made her X mark.  The witnesses were Samuel Waghorne and John Cooper who both signed their names.  The banns were published in Wadhurst on 29 July, 5 and 12 August 1810.

    Mary was baptised on 21 April 1792 in Wadhurst and was the daughter of Charles Moren (1762-1826) and Mary Kennard (1764-1826).

  3. Frances Baldock was baptised on 23 May 1788 in Wadhurst.  The baptism register records that her father was a blacksmith.

  4. Sarah Baldock was baptised on 28 February 1790 in Wadhurst.

  5. Henry Baldock was baptised on 20 November 1791 in Wadhurst.

  6. Charity Baldock was baptised on 21 April 1799 in Wadhurst.

  7. Philly Baldock was born on 13 May 1801 and baptised on 19 June 1801 in Wadhurst.  The baptism register noted that her father was a blacksmith.

  8. William Baldock was born on 18 March 1803.

    William married Louisa Coleman by banns on 14 May 1827 in Brighton, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of Brighton.

    William and Louisa had 5 children.

    The family left England as "Bounty Immigrants" on the "William Metcalfe on 31 August 1838.

  9. Harriet Baldock was baptised on 16 December 1804 in Wadhurst.
