Andrew BACK (1692-1772)

and Elizabeth (?-1730)

and Ann PECKHAM (?-?)

Andrew Back married twice, firstly to Elizabeth sometime before 1716, and then to Ann Peckham on 14 April 1732 at St. Mary's in Ringmer, Sussex.  He was then a widower and they were both of Ringmer.

Andrew Beck was most probably baptised on 11 September 1692 in Denton, Sussex, the son of Richard Becke (1659-1696) and Mary (?-1715).  However, there was also an Andrew Back baptised on 6 June 1694 in Arlington, Sussex, the son of Andrew Back (1663-?) and Barbara Fuller (1662-?).  Andrew was buried on 23 December 1772 in Ringmer.

Elizabeth wife of Andrew Back was buried on 17 April 1730 in Ringmer.

Ann Peckham's date and place or birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been buried on 8 October 1793 in Ringmer as Dame Beck.

Andrew Back and Elizabeth had the following child:

  1. Anne Back was baptised on 8 August 1716 in Ringmer.

Andrew Back and Ann Peckham had the following children:

  1. Mary Back was baptised on 16 August 1732 in Ringmer.

  2. Elizabeth Back was baptised on 14 July 1734 in Ringmer.

Elizabeth may have married Robert Thomson on 25 January 1759 in Ringmer.  He was then a widower.

  3. John Back was baptised on 14 June 1736 in Ringmer.  He may have been buried on 16 August 1802 in Ringmer.

As John Beck he probably married Elizabeth Nichols on 5 March 1761 in Ringmer.

Elizabeth was baptised on 28 October 1739 in Ringmer and was the daughter of John Nichols and Jane Smith.

John and Elizabeth had the following children:

    1. Betty Beck was baptised on 14 June 1761 in Ringmer.

    2. Mary Beck was baptised on 26 December 1762 in Ringmer.

    3. Ann Back was baptised on 10 March 1765 in Ringmer.

    4. John Back was baptised on 18 October 1767 in Ringmer.  He died aged 66 years and was buried on 13 November 1833 in Ringmer.

  4. Richard Beck was baptised on 11 March 1738/9 in Ringmer.  He may have been buried on 20 April 1811 in Ringmer.

As Richard Back he married Elizabeth Smart on 8 April 1764 in Ringmer.

Elizabeth was baptised on 24 August 1739 in Ringmer and was the daughter of Edward Smart and Elizabeth Coniber.

Richard and Elizabeth had the following children:

    1. Elizabeth Back was baptised on 8 April 1765 in Ringmer.

    2. Charles Back was baptised on 1 March 1767 in Ringmer.  He was most probably buried on 23 July 1811 in Ringmer.

    3. Elizabeth Beck was baptised on 26 February 1769 in Ringmer.

    4. William Back was baptised on 24 February 1771 in Ringmer.

    5. Edward Back was baptised on 11 August 1773 in Ringmer.

    6. Joseph Back was baptised on 23 July 1775 in South Malling.

    7. Jane Beck was baptised on 19 July 1778 in Ringmer.

    8. Henry Beck was baptised on 13 May 1781 in Ringmer.

    9. Robert Smart Beck was baptised on 13 June 1784 in Ringmer.  He died aged 89 years and was buried on 28 February 1874 in Ringmer.  Robert may have married Mary Jenner on 16 April 1809 in Laughton.  The witnesses to their marriage were Richard Knight and George Roots.

  5. Andrew Beck was baptised on 23 July 1741 in Ringmer and was probably buried there on 26 July 1741.

An Elizabeth Back died aged 94 and was buried on 27 April 1833 in Ringmer, therefore, born about 1739 - but was she married to John or Richard?
