The
AYLWIN Families of Sussex

My connection into
the Aylwin family is via
John Restall Aylwin
who was born in 1807 in Treyford cum Didling, Sussex. He married my 3x
Great Grandmother
Sarah Baxter in 1833 in Bepton, Sussex. When the 1841
census was recorded John was living in the Easebourne workhouse and died
there in 1845. I have not found his wife Sarah in the 1841 census and in about
that year she gave birth my 2x Great Grandfather Edmund.
Before John died, Sarah had settled down with
George Goble
and in the 1851 census George was said to have been the father of Edmund.
However, Sarah had another son born in 1843, James, and
according to his birth certificate he was the son of John Restall
a horse dealer. But when James was baptised, only Sarah's name was
recorded in the baptism register. So who was the father of Edmund and
James?
John
Restall Aylwin was the son of
Elizabeth Aylwin.
She was baptised in Treyford cum Didling in 1785 and was the daughter of
Peter Aylwin
(1758-1833) and Mary
Enticknap (c1761-1840). Elizabeth married
Richard Pannell
in 1812 and they settled in Harting.
