Henry ALFREY
(1794-1856)
and Jane STANDING (1797-1836)

Henry
Alfrey and
Jane Standing
married by banns on 25 October 1820 in Henfield, Sussex. They were
both then of Henfield. The witnesses to the marriage were William
Hall Vinall and Jane Alfrey. (Jane was Henry's sister and
she married William Hall Vinall in 1824.) (Henry and Jane were not my direct
ancestors. Henry was the brother of my 5x Great Grandmother, Ann
Alfrey.)
Henry Alfrey
was baptised on 18 May 1794 in Henfield.
He was the fourth son and eighth child of
Philip Alfrey (1754-1835) and
Mary Botting (c1753-1833). He died aged 68 years and was
buried on 16 December 1856 in Henfield. When the 1851 census was
recorded he was a 56 year old agricultural labourer lodging in the home of
his son-in-law James Goacher in the High Street, Henfield.
Jane Standing
was baptised on 15 October 1797 in Henfield
and was the daughter of
Henry Standing
(1772-?) and
Mary Kensett
(1771-?). Jane died aged 38 years and was buried on 6 April 1836 in
Henfield. Her grandparents were Richard Standen and Jane
Matthews, and William Kinsett and Mary Muzzle. (So
far I have no known conncetion to Jane.)

Alfrey and Jane Standing had 6 known children:

Mary Alfrey
was baptised on 6 July 1823 in Henfield.

Henry Alfrey
was baptised on 24 July 1825 in Henfield.
He married Mary Anne Breeds on 1 April 1850 in Hurstpierpoint,
Sussex.

Jane Alfrey
was baptised on 30 September 1827 in
Henfield. She died between 1861 and 1871. Her death may have
been registered in the second quarter of 1865 in the Steyning registration
district, as Jane Goacher.
Jane had an illegitimate
son:

William Allfree was born on 8 August 1846 and baptised on 13
September 1846 in Henfield. In the 1851 census his name was recorded
as William Goacher and he was then 4 years old. In 1861 he
was 14 year old agricultural labourer and his surname was still recorded
as Goacher.
Jane married James Goacher on 6
April 1849 in Henfield. The couple were living in the High Street
when the 1851 census was recorded and James was 29 year old shoemaker
journeyman. They were still living in the High Street in 1861 and
again in 1871, but James was then described as a widower.
James was born about 1823-25 in Ashurst,
Sussex.
James and Jane had the following known children:

Kitty Goacher was born in the third quarter of 1849 in Henfield.
She was a year old when the 1851 census was recorded. When the 1861
census was recorded she was an 11 year old scholar.

Jane Goacher was born about 1853 in Henfield. She was an 8
year old scholar in 1861.

James Goacher was born about 1857 in Henfield. He was 4 years
old in 1861. In 1871 he was a 14 year old baker's assistant and he
was the only on of his siblings living with his father.

Caroline Goacher was born in the third quarter of 1859 in Henfield.
She was a year old in 1861. She died aged 11 years and her death was
registered as Caroline Goacher in the first quarter of 1870 in the
Steyning registration district.

James Alfrey was
baptised on 11 April 1830 in Henfield.

Kitty Alfrey
was baptised on 26 August 1832 in
Henfield.
Kitty married Philip Waglon in the
first quarter of 1854 in the Epsom registration district.
Philip Wagland was baptised on 23
August 1818 in Albury, Surrey. He was the son of William Wagland
and Mary.
Philip and Kitty had the following known

Mary A. Waglan was born about 1855 in Epsom, Surrey.
She was 6 years old when the 1861 census was recorded.

Arthur Sidney Waglan was born in the third quarter of 1859 in
Epsom. In 1861 he was a year old and 11 in 1871. He was an
unmarried 21 year old carpenter living at home in 1881.

Alice Jane Waglon was born in the second quarter of 1862 in Epsom.
She was 9 years old when the 1871 census was recorded.

Lucy E. Waglan was born in the fourth quarter of 1866 in
Epsom. She was a 14 year old scholar in 1881.

Henry Waglon was born about 1870 in Epsom. He was an 11 year
old scholar in 1881.

Jessie Matilda Waglan was born in the second quarter of 1873 in
Epsom. She was an 8 year old scholar in 1881.

Kate Amelia Waglan was born in the first quarter of 1877 in Epsom.
She was a 4 year old scholar in 1881.

Stephen Alfrey
was baptised on 8 March 1835 in Henfield.
