Merston, Sussex

My connection to the parish of Merston is with the marriage of William Gibbons and Catherine Griffin, my 6x Great Grandparents, in 1746.  William and Catherine don't appear to have been baptised in the parish, but he was buried there in 1757.  William had first married in 1735 and that marriage was recorded in the Merston registers as having taken place at the Bishops Chapel.St. Gyles, Merston, circa 1910 - from http://www.westsussexpast.org.uk/pictures/index.html

The parish church is dedicated to St. Giles.

A typed transcript of the Merston registers on microfiche can be purchased from The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies.  The transcript covers:

Baptisms 1587-1812

Marriages 1578-1811

Burials 1593-1689 and 1692-1812
