Fletching, Sussex

My Fletching connections
A 4x Great Grandmother,
Mary Ann
Pearce was said to have been born in Fletching in about 1778/9,
although her baptism has not been found in the baptism register. She
married
William
Sawyers in Barcombe in 1805 and they raised their family in
Newick. William was born in Maresfield in 1783. Mary Ann died in
Chailey aged 85 years in 1863 and was buried in Newick. William and
Mary Ann had 12 children baptised between 1805 and 1828, which would have
made Mary Ann about 50 when she had her last child, therefore, her age at
death and in the census may have been incorrect.
Mary Ann may have been the daughter of
Richard
Pierce and
Ann Bennett
who married in Fletching in 1768 and had 3 of their children baptised there
in 1768, 1774 and 1785. Two of their other known children were
baptised in Horsted Keynes in 1772 and 1780.
Richard was baptised in Fletching in 1740 and was the son of
Stephen
Pearce and
Mary
Langridge. Stephen and Mary married in Fletching in 1719
and had 7 children baptised there between 1720 and 1740.
